Mr. Lin: Come on, everyone. We need to go soon to beat the rush hour traffic.
Mrs. Lin: But today's a holiday. The traffic shouldn't be bad.
Mr. Lin: You should know by now that the traffic in L.A. is always bad. That's why we need to leave early. Paul! Susan!
Susan: We're coming, we're coming. Where are we going again, Dad?
Mr. Lin: We're going down to Long Beach to see the Queen Mary.
Susan: What's that?
Mr. Lin: It's a big ship.
Susan: We're going on a cruise? Great!
Mr. Lin: No, the ship doesn't cruise anymore. It's been turned into a hotel with stores and restaurants.

Susan: It's filled with dozens of freeways, highways, avenues and streets. I can't find anything.
Mr. Lin: Look at the south part of the map. Can you find Long Beach?
Susan: Yes. But how are we going to drive there?
Mr. Lin: Easy. Just follow the map.
Susan: That's easy for you to say.
Mr. Lin: Now find Azusa, where we live. It's in the northern part of L.A., east of Pasadena.
Susan: It's right here.
Mr. Lin: Now, here's what we'll do. We'll get on 210 going west until we come to 605. We will go south on 605 until we come to the number 10 freeway. Then we'll go west on 10 until we reach 710. Once we get on 710 going south, it's a straight shot to the Port of Long Beach and the Queen Mary . See?
Susan: Not really. But I'm glad you know where you're going.

Mr. Lin: We do. Are you sure we're going east?
Susan: That's what the sign over there says.
Mr. Lin: Paul, when you saw the exit for 10, did it say east or west?
Paul: I didn't notice.
Mr. Lin: We must have taken the wrong exit. We'll have to turn around.
Susan: Get off here at Puente Avenue, Dad. We can cross the freeway and get right back on going west.
Mr. Lin: Good idea. The on ramp should be just across this bridge.
Susan: Uh-oh. Road construction. The ramp is closed. There's a detour sign.
Mr. Lin: OK. Then we will follow the detour signs.

Susan: Dad, please. Stop and ask.
Mr. Lin: Oh, all right. There's a gas station up here on the corner.
