Riding the Bus 搭公车

The Lins moved into their new home and began to unpack. One afternoon, Mrs. Lin, Susan and Paul decided to take a break and go to the mall just for fun.
林家搬进他们的新家，并且开始开箱整理。有一天下午，林太太、苏珊和保罗决定要休息一下，到大型购物中心去闲逛。
Paul:How do you read this bus schedule? Which bus should we take?
Susan: Well, first find the mall on the map. Then find our street and see if any of the bus numbers are the same.
Mrs. Lin: It looks like only one bus comes to the bus stop near our house-Route 490.
Susan: But it doesn't go directly to the Santa Anita Mall. We'll have to transfer to bus number 268 at Tyler Avenue.
*保　罗：这个公车时刻表你怎么看？我们应该搭哪一班公车？
*苏　珊：嗯，先在地图上找到购物中心，然后再找我们所在的街道，看看是不是有同样的公车号码。
*林太太：看起来好像只有一班公车到我们家附近的站牌，就是490号公车。
*苏　珊：可是它没有直达圣塔安尼塔购物中心，我们必须在泰勒大道换乘268号公车。
Mrs. Lin: How much is the fare, Susan?
Susan: Well, it's $1.35 for everyone under 62. There's no children's fare. Well, Paul, I guess you'll have to pay full fare.
Paul: Does that mean you'll treat me like an adult?
Susan: Don't you wish.
Mrs. Lin: How often do the buses run?
Susan: The schedule says the number 490 bus comes every 30 minutes. We have to be at the bus stop by 20 minutes after the hour or 10 minutes before the hour.
Mrs. Lin: It's 1:00 now. That means the bus will come at 1:20 and 1:50. We have to hurry if we want to catch the 1:20 bus.
*林太太：车票要多少钱啊，苏珊？
*苏　珊：62岁以下每个人是一块三毛五，没有孩童票价。保罗，我看你得买全票了。
*保　罗：那是不是表示你会把我当大人看待呢？
*苏　珊：你想得美。
*林太太：公车多久会来一班？
*苏　珊：时刻表上说，490号公车每隔三十分钟来一班。我们必须在每个钟点的二十分或五十分之前到达站牌。
*林太太：现在是一点钟，也就是说，公车会在一点二十分或一点五十分抵达。我们如果想赶上一点二十分的公车，动作就得快一点了。

Mrs. Lin: Well, no problem. My English is perfect!

*保　罗：我肚子饿了。
*苏　珊：嘿，我们何不去吃个饭，然后去看场电影呢？
*林太太：可是我们怎么知道哪一部片好看呢？
*苏　珊：我们可以碰碰运气啊。妈，要记得这里的电影没有中文字幕喔。
*林太太：没问题，我的英文好得很呢！
*苏　珊：是的，妈。

Mrs. Lin:You have to call the dispatcher and ask for one.
Paul:Can I choose which color I want?
Susan:Paul! Be serious.
*保　罗：妈，我们来洛杉矶已经快三个礼拜了，我连一部出租车都没看过。
*林太太：这里的出租车不像台湾那么多。也不全都是黄色。
*保　罗：那你怎么叫出租车呢？
*林太太：你得打电话给出租车调度员叫车。
*保　罗：我可以选我要的颜色的车吗？
*苏　珊：保罗！请你正经一点。

Paul:There's a bus coming!
Mrs. Lin:Just in time! I think it's the one we want. The sign above the front window has a number 490 on it. Get ready to get on.
Susan:And it doesn't look very crowded. That's good.
After they got on the bus, they paid their fares at the front. The fare machine accepted both dollar bills and coins. Then they sat down and watched the scenery as they traveled along the city streets.

*保　罗：有一辆公车来了。
*林太太：刚好赶上！我想那就是我们要搭的，前面车窗上的标示写着490，准备上车吧。
*苏　珊：看起来不会很挤，太好了。
他们上了公车以后，就在前面付钱，收票机同时接受纸钞和硬币。然后他们坐了下来，随着车子在市街上前进，他们一面观赏着外面的风景。
(a few minutes later)
Paul:How much farther is it to the mall? We've been on this bus a long time.
Susan:The schedule says we should get there by 2:00. It's a 40-minute ride.
Mrs. Lin:What time does the return bus leave the mall?
Susan:According to the timetable, the bus departs on the hour and the half hour. The last bus is at 11 p.m.
Paul:Why so late? Doesn't the mall close at 9:00?
Susan:Yes, but the movie theater stays open later.
Paul:How long are we going to stay at the mall?
Mrs. Lin:We can stay as long as you want to. Dad is going to study at the university tonight and won't be home until late.
（几分钟后）
*保　罗：购物中心还有多远啊？我们在公车上已经坐很久了。
*苏　珊：时刻表上说，我们应该会在两点以前到那儿，这是一段四十分钟的车程。
*林太太：回程的公车几点会离开购物中心呢？
*苏　珊：根据时刻表来看，公车在每个整点及半点钟的时候出发，最晚的一班是十一点。
*保　罗：为什么会这么晚呢？购物中心不是九点就关门了吗？
*苏　珊：没错，但是电影院的营业时间比较晚。
*保　罗：我们要在购物中心待多久呢？
*林太太：你想待多久我们就待多久。爸爸今晚要在学校里念书，很晚才会回家。

Mrs. Lin:OK. That will be our next outing. When do you want to go?
Paul:Tomorrow!
Susan:I'm sure you do.

*苏　珊：那一定很好玩，我们找个时间去吧。不过我们得查一下要搭哪一班公车。
*林太太：好啊，我们下次出去玩就去那里吧。你们想什么时候去呢？
*保　罗：明天！
*苏　珊：你不用讲我就知道。
